  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 hamburger buns, torn into pieces
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with onions and garlic until fully cooked.
  3. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder; simmer for a few minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix torn hamburger buns with melted butter and sesame seeds until coated.
  5. Whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, mustard, vinegar, sugar, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder for the special sauce.
  6. In a baking dish (9×13 inches), layer half of the bun mixture followed by half of the beef mixture and half of the special sauce. Repeat layers.
  7. Top with shredded cheddar and American cheese slices.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; uncover for the last 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
