  • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) hot water
  • 2 cups (448g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups (350g) peanut butter
  • 9 cups (1035g) powdered sugar
  • 67 tbsp (90-105ml) water or milk
  • 6 Reese's, chopped

  • 1 cup (6 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy whipping cream
  • 8 Reese's, cut in half

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix all dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs to the dry mixture; beat until smooth. Stir in hot water.
  4. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for about 22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
  6. For frosting: Beat room temperature butter and peanut butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar with water or milk until smooth.
  7. Assemble by layering one cake on a serving platter, spreading frosting on top, adding chopped peanut butter cups, then placing the second layer on top and frosting the entire cake.
  8. Prepare ganache by heating cream and pouring it over chocolate chips; stir until smooth and drizzle over frosted cake.
