  • 4 large eggs

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1¼ cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • For Frosting: 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Melt the chopped semisweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in intervals until smooth; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, oil, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time followed by vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Alternate adding dry ingredients with buttermilk to the butter mixture until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter; mix melted chocolate into one half to create marbling.
  7. Spoon batters alternately into prepared pans and swirl gently with a knife.
  8. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool completely before frosting with chocolate buttercream.
