  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups finely chopped apples (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In another bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually combine dry ingredients with sour cream, alternating between the two.
  6. Gently fold in chopped apples and nuts if using.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  8. Bake for about 50-60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Allow cooling in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
