  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups finely chopped apples (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients alternately with sour cream, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Gently fold in chopped apples and nuts until evenly distributed.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Allow cooling in the pan for ten minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
